En inglés no hay una regla general para la colocación de los adverbios (con excepción de los adverbios de frecuencia) pero podemos dar algunas orientaciones:
1 Cuando modifican a un adjetivo o adverbio suelen ir delante de él.
The steak is well done.
El filete está bien hecho.
2 Cuando van con un verbo suelen ir detrás de él.
He speaks quickly.
Habla rápido.
They slept badly last week.
Durmieron mal la semana pasada.
3 Cuando el verbo tiene un complemento, el adverbio irá detrás de éste y no entre el verbo y el complemento.
He drives his car slowly.
Conduce su coche lentamente.
4 Si el complemento va precedido de una preposición el adverbio puede ir bien delante de la preposición bien detrás del complemento.
I look for my keys desperately.
Busco las llaves desesperadamente.
I look desperately for my keys.
Busco desesperadamente las llaves.
5 El advebio se suele colocar delante del verbo si el objeto es una oración.
I simply began to feel that they were my friends again.
Yo simplemente empecé a sentir que eran de nuevo mis amigos.
